Former President Carter asks Georgia GOP Brian Kemp to step down as top election official

Carter said he was concerned that popular confidence in Georgia's gubernatorial election would be threatened if the candidate, Brian Kemp, were to remain in his current role as secretary of state. "You are now overseeing the election in which you are a candidate," Carter wrote. "This runs counter to the most fundamental principle of democratic elections."
