ALEXANDRIA, Va. — The boyhood home of Confederate general Robert E. Lee has spent stints as a high-society gathering place, museum and most recently, private family home — and it’s now up for sale. The Washington Post  reports  owners Mark and Ann Kington want the next owners of the house in Alexandria, Virginia, to be stewards of its past. The home, listed at $8.5 million, was built in 1796, and soon sold to a plantation owner who entertained George Washington. Lee’s father rented it in 1812, and for eight decades, Lee family members lived there. The home changed hands thrice in the 20th century, from a Bureau of Mines chief to a Pulitzer Prize-winner to the Stonewall Jackson Foundation, which opened it to the public. The Kingtons bought the home in 2000 and renovated it.

MANITOWOC — Manitowoc police are investigating a suspicious death but say the public is not in danger. Authorities were called early Friday about a 37-year-old man who was non-responsive. He was pronounced dead at a hospital. Detectives are still investigating but say there is no danger to the public. Manitowoc County Coroner Curtis Green says an autopsy is scheduled Monday. Authorities are withholding the man’s name until his family is notified. Police don’t expect to release more details until early next week.

MILWAUKEE — Milwaukee police are asking for the public’s help to identify suspects accused of pointing a handgun at a pedestrian on Thursday, March 29. It happened on North Teutonia Avenue — south of Green Tree Road. According to police, as the pedestrian walked across the street he was nearly struck by a vehicle driving in the bicycle lane. Officials say after they made it safely to the sidewalk, a passenger from the vehicle pointed a gun out of the window and aimed it toward the victim. Officials say four people were inside the vehicle, described as a new model, silver Ford Taurus SHO with a sunroof, dark tinted windows, black painted rims and no license plates. The car has a long black scratch over the gas tank. TRENTON -- A Trenton man is recovering Friday, March 30, after nearly being killed by the flu. Josh Petty spent more than a month in the hospital. And he is happy to be back home, but he has one major regret. "Roughly 1000 steps a day," Josh Petty said. With every small step, Josh Petty reaches a mighty milestone.   "I can pull up with my right foot but I can't pull up with my left foot," Josh said. "It gets easier and easier." Held up by a walker, the 21-year-old is once again treading around his Trenton home. "It feels really good to be home actually," Josh said. Petty is finally home after 41 days in the hospital.   "My kidneys weren't really functioning at all," Josh said. Most of it was spent unconscious, in the intensive care unit. He was battling complications of the flu, fueled by a staph infection that weakened his immune system. GOODYEAR, Ariz. – An Arizona couple are calling the teacher who allegedly sexually abused their 13-year-old son a “monster,” according to KPHO . The boy’s father and stepmother spoke out about the arrest of Brittany Zamora. The 27-year-old teacher is accused of sexually molesting the boy. She was a sixth-grade teacher at Las Brisas Academy near 182nd Avenue and Broadway in Goodyear. Police say a parent found text messages between Zamora and the male student, indicating sexual activity both on and off campus. “He said that it started in a classroom chat group where she would talk to him, and then flirted with him, and it just progressed from there,” said the boy’s stepmom. “He told us they kissed and had sex,” said the boy’s father. “He was taken advantage of,” said the boy’s stepmom. “She was just using him for her own grotesque benefits.” The couple asked that we alter their voices and not show their faces.
