She joins Ben Domenech on this episode of the Federalist Radio Hour to discuss the sexual assault allegations rising in the Catholic Church, the politics on the ground in Israel, and how religion impacts both American politics and institutions. “I do think what we are seeing is a group of Americans who continue to behave in a typical way…being committed to civic society…really having those tight-knit ties of community formed and that I think is democratically buoying,” Green said. “But then you also have a tribal affiliation that kind of has a tangential touch point on that religious identity and religious past but isn’t necessarily as buoying for democracy, and in fact can be destructive.” Listen here:

Christians United For Israel Faces Strange Problem Of Having Accomplished Its Big Goals

What do you when you’ve accomplished all of your major goals? It’s not something most organizations ever need to ponder, as they often spend decades working toward a single legislative victory in Washington. In the case of Christians United for Israel (CUFI), however, it’s no longer an idle question. CUFI, which now boasts 4.3 million members, has had a banner year. Since CUFI’s last national summit , they have scored several major political wins, which CUFI founder Pastor John Hagee called miracles: President Trump recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, he moved the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem, and he withdrew from the Iran nuclear deal. Additionally, Congress passed the CUFI-supported Taylor Force Act , which reduces American aid to the Palestinian Authority until they stop financially rewarding convicted terrorists and their families for attacks on American and Israeli citizens. Pastor Hagee told the crowd, “For the first time in a long time, the wind is at our backs. We have an

Jordan Sucks Up All The Attention It wouldn’t be “The Bachelor” franchise without the network priming the audience for the next crazy contestant a la Corinne Olympios to appear in next season’s “Bachelor In Paradise.” Jordan, the male model who models his speaking patterns after those of the president of the United States, spent a lot of time onscreen in his underwear. Chris Harrison asks Jordan what he did with the pair of golden underwear that Becca gave him earlier in the season. In response, the male model dropped his pants to reveal that he was wearing them! Talk about a plot twist. “Modeling is so much more than being ridiculously good looking,” he said. “You’re talking gym year-round, tan year-round, salt spray year-round. There’s so much involved, it’s — it’s taxing.” Mmmm, yea

China’s Latest Vaccine Scandal Illustrates The Dangers Of Socialized Medicine

Self-identified Democratic Socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is touring the country and selling her promise of a socialist paradise with guaranteed jobs, free college, and of course, free healthcare for all. By sheer coincidence, a  public health crisis  is unfolding in China right now which shows the deep-rooted flaws of socialized medicine. In China, vaccine production is heavily subsidized by the government and vaccines are given to children through the government’s mandatory vaccination program. Sounds pretty good, right? But last Friday, Chinese Food and Drug authorities revealed that one Chinese drug company, Jilin-based Changchun Changsheng Bio-technology, has sold about 252,600 substandard DPT vaccines — used to  prevent diphtheria, whooping cough and tetanus — to the Shandong Centre for Disease Control and Prevention. That’s a government agency in charge of public health for about 100 million people. The inferior DPT vaccines were given to an unknown number of Chinese babie

The Age Of Didacticism Is Out To Kill Comedy

Gambar
I’ve been tracking the growing didacticism of today’s art, the tendency of the mainstream culture’s gatekeepers to subordinate esthetic merit to the imperative of blasting a political message that matches the Left’s orthodoxies. Didacticism has been taking over every form of art, from television to movies to fashion to sculpture to poetry. Now it’s coming for the unlikeliest target of all: comedy. Did I hear you say that there’s no way to make comedy didactic, that this is the ultimate contradiction in terms? True enough, which is why the age of didacticism is coming to destroy comedy altogether—and it is openly proclaiming that fact. The latest buzz in the middlebrow media is a stand-up comedy act that The New York Times praises as “comedy-destroying.” [Hannah] Gadsby, an Australian comedian, is the creator of ‘Nanette,’ a stage show turned Netflix special that is lacerating in its fury about how women and queer people like her, and anyone else who might behave or look ‘other

Don’t Let Your Kids Waste Their Summers And Lives On Video Games Like I Did

Washington Post columnist Petula Dvorak is nonplussed about video games . Her children are addicted to the popular game Fortnite, so much so that they’ve spent much of their summer indoors. She urges her pale progeny: “Go outside and get a sunburn. Please.” This is a tad ironic coming from the same person who a few years ago indulged in Pokémon Go with her kids all over DC. What is a parent to do? Dvorak summarizes her parental dilemma: cut the cord and isolate her children from all their friends, or allow them to waste their summers away on the couch. From one who once struggled with video game addiction and now has three young ’uns, here’s my advice: keep your kids as far away from these games as possible. I was first introduced to video games when I was five years old — a neighbor had the original Nintendo. Before too long, I’d persuaded my parents to get me a system. Super Mario and some baseball game whose name I’ve long forgotten were my first guilty pleasures. Then there w

Why LGBT Teens Should Try To Work With Angry Parents Rather Than Running Away

A recent story about a gay teenager being kicked out of his family’s home has stirred up many difficult emotions and spurred outrage from LGBT Americans. A major LGBT online publication, Queerty, first reported on the story with the headline, “ Teen’s parents threw him to the curb for being gay, but just look at him now .” The article summarizes the experience: “After his dad snooped through his phone and discovered Seth is gay, he was thrown out of the house by his zealous parents.” It goes on to celebrate the young man for being co-valedictorian of his class and pursing college despite being “made homeless” by his parents. When I first read this article, it brought back memories of my own involuntary coming out experience. The young man, Seth Owen, and I have a lot in common in this way. When I was 15 years old, my dad stumbled through some of my browsing history on his work computer, where I had begun to explore websites like Gay.com during moments I was alone. He confronted me l

New York Abortion Activists Spied On Pro-Lifers, Then Lied About Them In Court

In May 2018, New York Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman resigned from office in disgrace following reports that he had physically assaulted four women. Before his departure, Schneiderman had launched a year-long investigation into peaceful pro-life protestors. He eventually filed suit against 13 individuals in June 2017, alleging violations of the federal Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act (FACE) and the state and city corollaries. Ironically, in a press release announcing the lawsuit, Schneiderman accused the protestors of “threatening, violent, and obstructive behavior” at Choices Women’s Medical Center, a Queens, New York abortion facility. However, after holding a hearing on the claims, a federal judge found the attorney general’s witnesses were not reliable and “that despite the availability of hundreds of hours of video evidence, the [attorney general] has not cited a single video that corroborates the witness testimony claiming near-weekly violations. Instead, the

Why Russia Should Be Free To Campaign For Or Against Trump On Social Media

Did Russia commit an act of war by using social media ads to criticize Hillary Clinton during the 2016 presidential campaign? Yes, say  a not insignificant  number of Trump opponents. To them, Trump’s failure to chant “Russian interference” in unison with his critics  amounts to treason . Let’s stop and think about this before we scramble the jets and start another war. And let’s think about what we’re making illegal before we start throwing people in prison. Saying “Russia interfered with the election!” is a deliberate conflation between two very different things. Does “interfere” mean that Russia actually interfered with the casting or counting of votes? No . As illustrated below, it means that Russia inserted speech and advocacy into the fray of the dueling 2016 presidential campaigns with the goal of influencing voters. If Russia committed a criminal act by sponsoring anti-Clinton speech in social media ads during the 2016 campaign, was it also illegal for a foreigner to critici

Thanks To Comedy, Nobody Has Laughed Since Trump Became President

In recent weeks, it’s become apparent to me, America’s leading social and cultural critic and guardian of entertainment mores, that comedy must no longer be considered funny. What’s the point of mocking politicians if they don’t immediately drop to their knees and beg forgiveness? How can we laugh at a monkey getting hit in the face with a pie when we know that monkey will spend the night, and all subsequent nights, in a cage? Those of us who’ve chuckled, guffawed, or bleated at the misfortune of others have been forever implicated in a system that can no longer be sustained. Humor has become a furnace, and we’re all wearing the ashes of its victims to create the perfect smoky eye. When Jon Stewart stood in front of a crowd of 10,000 cool kids in Washington DC in 2010 and said “Nya nya nya NAMBLA, hey lady!”—remarks that he later tearfully apologized for—he presaged a moment when humor would no longer matter and the resistance would die in the writer’s room. The days when a well-pla

BBC Releases A Clip Proclaiming The End Of Boys And Girls

In a bizarre tweet last week, the British Broadcasting System featured a video in which toddlers were dressed as the opposite sex. The goal was to ask if parents are forcing sex stereotypes on children. The short video’s undertones made it appear to support a transgender agenda rapidly redefining, or even destroying, traditional ideas about sex. Then the BBC’s hashtag left no doubt: #NoMoreBoysAndGirls. Are you sure you don’t gender-stereotype children? #NoMoreBoysAndGirls pic.twitter.com/iThZ2P6REW — BBC (@BBC) July 28, 2018 It seemed perfectly clear that the tweet intended to make parents more open to the possibility that their little bundles of joy may not turn out to be the boy or girl they thought they were raising. In fact, it strongly suggests that being too forceful in teaching such once-elementary realities as “boys have penises, girls have vaginas” is dangerous and antiquated. Although the video made no mention of sex-change attempts, it clearly suggested that behavio

We Need To Integrate Social Offenders Into Society After They Show Remorse

James Gunn is only the most recent man (aren’t they all men?) to lose his position because of past insensitivities that transgress our current sensitive cultural climate. The presumed director of the next installment of the Guardians of the Galaxy series was fired by Disney when old tweets surfaced. The transgressions were admittedly reprehensible and deeply disturbing at any time. Yet the swift “no tolerance” response is new to our society, now informed by the #MeToo movement. Even many in Hollywood find themselves in a position of protesting the firing as they advocate for the possibility that people might learn and grow and move beyond their past behavior. What intrigues me here is the parallel to a period in early church history and what we might learn from that similar situation. The early Christians were also zealous for righteousness. They understood their following Christ as a call to the highest standards of holiness. The problem was that not everyone in the Christian comm
