Billionaire Democrat Donor Calls For ‘Nuclear War’ To Stop Trump

Billionaire Democrat donor Tom Steyer called for a “nuclear war” to stop President Trump — then took back his comment after the interviewer called his point “sobering.” “Maybe we can have, like, a nuclear war and then we get a  real  course correction,” Steyer told The Rolling Stone  in an interview published Friday. He was elaborating on his belief that it is imperative for Congress to impeach Trump immediately, because the “checks and balances system” set up in the constitution isn’t working, and the only other option is to wait around for economic disaster and war. Here’s the exchange between Steyer and Tom Dickinson: DICKINSON: In a recent interview you suggested not impeaching Trump is normalizing him. What do you mean? STEYER: Once you don’t speak up against lawlessness, lawlessness is permitted. … It’s like being at a dinner party and somebody makes a racial slur and you speak up and say, ‘I think that’s really wrong, and you should take that back,’ and every...

Journalists Blame ‘Fake News’ For Shooting, Claim Criticism Is Now Off Limits

Liberal media outlets have more than lived up to the “fake news” moniker President Trump bestowed on them following the election, after they ginned up the term to excuse Hillary Clinton’s loss. Now they are using the Annapolis shooting to assert they should no longer be criticized by President Trump — or anyone in the press — for shoddy reporting. The man who killed four journalists inside the Capital Gazette newsroom on Thursday had a long running beef with the paper, because it reported in 2011 he was convicted for harassing a woman online. He sued for defamation, but the judge threw out his case. There is zero evidence his decision to open fire in the newsroom had anything to do with media criticism Nevertheless, journalists are trying to use the dead reporters as a shield against future criticism of their work. “I don’t ever want to hear the phrase ‘fake news’ ever again,” tweeted CNN White House correspondent Kaitlan Collins. I don’t want to hear the phrase “fake news” ever a...

Why Americans Should Care About Mexico’s Presidential Election

If the polls are right, Mexico will elect Andrés Manuel López Obrador president on Sunday, July 1. He’s the founder of the left-wing Morena Party and a career politician. López Obrador ran for president unsuccessfully twice before, but this time polls show him as the front runner. The 64-year-old was elected mayor of Mexico City in 2000. Should he ascend to the presidency as predicted, his radical ideas will spell trouble for both Mexico and the U.S. for several reasons. Mexico’s Hugo Chavez López Obrador’s National Regeneration Movement party (Morena) openly wants to bring Bolivarian revolution in Mexico, despite the ongoing economic and humanitarian crisis  in Venezuela. Key players of the party  are enamored with Latin American dictators including Fidel Castro, Hugo Chávez and Nicolás Maduro. Although López Obrador tries to cast himself as a moderate, many of his critics see similarities between him and Hugo Chavez. Like Chavez, López Obrador is char...

Journalists Blame Trump For Annapolis Shooting Despite Complete Lack Of Evidence

Gambar
Nearly three out of every four Americans (72 percent) surveyed last week said “traditional major news sources report news they know to be fake, false or purposely misleading” at least some of the time. Axios commissioned the story and gave it a bad headline on an otherwise fine article. Although the question dealt with not just fake but also purposely misleading news and though the overwhelming majority of Americans expressed concern, the headline was “ 92 percent of Republicans think media intentionally reports fake news .” Making “fake news” a Republican-only issue when it was reported a concern of 72 percent of all Americans, including a majority of Democrats and a whopping 79 percent of Independents, is itself an example of how the media report news in a misleading fashion. The manner of reporting might also explain why Republicans are more likely than Democrats to witness purposely misleading news reports, much less be frustrated by them. On Thursday, Wendi Winters, John McNam...

The Supreme Court Opening Isn’t About Trump, It’s About Mitch McConnell

The open spot on the Supreme Court places a spotlight on the constitutional role of a politician known for being unprincipled and caring more about getting and staying in power than about achieving the small-government agenda of the Right—but who at least is being decisive and effective and getting something done that no one has managed to do before. No, I’m not talking about Donald Trump, who will have the power to appoint a new justice to the spot opened by Anthony Kennedy’s retirement. I’m talking about Mitch McConnell, whose leadership of the Republican majority in the Senate has given him the power to confirm Supreme Court appointments or let them die in limbo. McConnell is notorious as the embodiment of the dreaded Republican establishment. He has the bad reputation of someone who clings to power no matter whether he delivers in any of his party’s actual agenda—like, say, repealing Obamacare. But he has delivered on one big thing. He delivered on the Supreme Court. Back in 20...

In Travel Ban Ruling, Justice Thomas Takes Aim At Insane Use Of Nationwide Injunctions

Justice Clarence Thomas opened the door to future Supreme Court sparring over an issue with profound legal and practical implications that go well beyond Trump’s travel ban in his concurring opinion in Trump v. Hawaii . Thomas — the underappreciated revolutionary of the Supreme Court, in the sense of his work to restore founding principles in the law through philosophically consistent originalist jurisprudence – called into question the very idea that a single federal judge in Hawaii can impose an injunction barring a presidential executive order against anyone nationwide in the first place. If his words are any indication, the practice of issuing “universal injunctions” may face the scrutiny of the highest court in the land. He writes: Injunctions that prohibit the Executive Branch from applying a law or policy against anyone…have become increasingly common. District courts, including the one here, have begun imposing universal injunctions without considering their authority t...

No, Pro-Lifers Aren’t Racists Who Only Want To Save White Babies

Gambar
Thursday morning, progressive Christian writer Rachel Held Evans wrote a Twitter thread about the possibility that Roe v. Wade may be overturned once Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy is replaced. Rather than make some kind of cogent-but-wrong progressive argument, she leapt straight to some completely unjustifiable insinuations about pro-life people. Basically, in her now-deleted thread, she claimed that pro-life people’s opposition to abortion is based on a belief that most saved babies would be white, and that if we knew that the saved babies would be black, we would probably be pro-choice. While the thread is gone, this screencap is illustrative: Deleted tweet: pic.twitter.com/3xPwglcfrm — Joseph Ashby (@JosephAshbyShow) June 28, 2018 Rhetorically, the tweets sounded even-keeled, but they represent a phantasmagorical world. Unfortunately, rather than rebut her position with facts, some on Twitter apparently responded to Evans with threats and insults , which is what le...

America’s Best Satirical Novelist Embraces Historical Fiction With Hilarious Results

Despite his claims to the contrary, the author whose sardonic wit lit up the tobacco industry in the 1994 novel Thank You For Smoking may not have left political satire. He’s simply turned back the clock a few years to when the bounty hunting was good and the tomfoolery was easy. Christopher Buckley, the heir of William F. Buckley Jr., the founder of National Review and the “St. Paul of the conservative movement,” has spent the past four decades crafting a flourishing career from the absurdities of American politics. But the Trump administration shot its snarky messenger. Buckley claims that the “self-satirization” of American politics sent him running wounded into the arms of—historical fiction. The Judge Hunter , Buckley’s second historical novel, romps through early colonial New England in a comic quest to bring law and order to New England. Published in May, The Judge Hunter is a fun and punchy sock in the nose to both Old and New England’s histories, with their tendencies to ...
