Here’s Everything We Know About The NYC Attack

At least eight people have died and an additional 15 people have been injured in an incident that’s being investigated as a terror attack on Tuesday afternoon in New York City. Officials say 29-year-old Sayfullo Saipov of Tampa, Florida plowed into pedestrians and bicyclists on a crowded jogging path in Lower Manhattan with a rented flatbed truck before slamming into a school bus which blocked his path. Two adults and two children aboard the bus were injured in the crash. The suspect, who has been apprehended, reportedly shouted “Allahu Akbar” upon exiting the vehicle and was holding what appeared to be two handguns. These turned out to be a paintball gun and a pellet gun. Saipov was shot in the abdomen by police and has been hospitalized. Federal authorities are investigating the incident as a terror attack. “Based on information we have at this moment, this was an act of terror, and a particularly cowardly act of terror aimed at innocent civilians,” said New York City Mayor Bill d

MILWAUKEE -- Students at Milwaukee's Messmer Saint Mary Catholic School didn’t have to go Trick-or-Treating on Halloween morning. Instead, the candy came to them. “They were very excited," said Principal Elizabeth Fritsch. "I’m not sure the teachers told all of them, so when the officers walked in, the kids were so surprised and excited.” Safe trick-or-treating at Messmer Saint Mary Catholic School Members of the Milwaukee Police and Fire Departments stopped by the school to hand out bags of candy. “The goal today is just to have fun and say thank you, and give us the opportunity to come out and say hi to the kids and check out the costumes," Officer Edward Ciano said. New downtown parking garage MILWAUKEE — A new place to park in downtown Milwaukee opens Wednesday, November 1st. Eventually, people will be able to live there too. “Where you park, it’s kind of your first impression and your last impression, so we want to make sure we’ve got the best possible experience for fans as they’re coming in,” said Milwaukee Bucks Chief Marketing Officer Dustin Godsey. The $35 million, six-level garage near 6th and McKinley is part of the city’s $47 million contribution to the new Milwaukee Bucks arena project. Parking revenue will be split between the city and the Bucks. Dustin Godsey “Should be pretty unique,” Godsey said. The Bucks said one difference from most places you park is the gates are on the second level of the new garage. “Really just to make sure that we aren’t getting backups onto the street as people are coming in and out,” Godsey said. It should be easy for people to remember where they parked because each floor is named after a dif

Mother accused of killing children in oven a no-show in court

Atlanta, Georgia — A mother charged with killing her two young sons by placing them in an oven and turning it on was expected to appear in court on Monday but was not at the appearance. Investigators say 24 year-old Lamora Williams put her sons, ages two and one, into an oven and turned it on. The toddlers, 1-year-old Jakarter Penn and 2-year-old Keyounte Penn, had burns on their bodies when police found them at the Oakland City West End Apartments in Atlanta. Lamora Williams’ family said she struggled most of her life with mental issues and may have been dealing with postpartum at the time of the incident. It’s a tragedy which her sister thinks could have been prevented. “She had issues and the fact that the state failed her, that’s a problem,” said Tabitha Hollingworth. Plus, family say the writing was on the wall. She routinely left her children home alone and had even attempted to cut her wrists. Wearing dark sunglasses to hide her tears, Brenda Williams is saddened, but not

Tale of 2 toilets

Gambar
When you make changes to your bathroom the toilet is an important part of the equation. What is there to consider? The shape and style, right? And whether it will fit the right distance from the wall. But oh, there is so much more! Not all toilets perform the same. Consumer Reports tests to see if they effectively wash away debris, whether the bowl is left clean after a flush, and how water-efficient they are. What makes one toilet better than another? To illustrate, CR selected two toilets that cost the same – $150. But one is a recommended model, and the other has the lowest score in their ratings. Why? The Mansfield Alto just got fair marks for waste removal. In several tests, the sponge debris stayed in the bowl, but the Delta Prelude does its main job very well. The little test sponges won’t be coming back. And how clean is the bowl surface afterwards? One CR test is to draw a water soluble marker ring around the inside of the rim, to see if one flush can wash it away. The Ma

Tesla sued for Model 3 delays

Tesla CEO Elon Musk warned company employees that ramping up production of the Model 3 would be put them in “production hell.’ He didn’t mention there would be lawyers. But the bottlenecks and delays getting the new assembly lines up and running have prompted at least one shareholder lawsuit alleging that Tesla and Musk improperly hid its problems from its investors. And six other law firms have issued statements recently seeking investors to be plaintiffs in planned class action suits against the electric car maker. Tesla said on Oct. 2 that it could only  build 260 of its Model 3 cars  during the third quarter, rather than the 1,500 it had forecast to investors earlier in the year. The move comes after actor Anthony Rapp came forward with claims Spacey made inappropriate sexual advances toward him in 1986, when he was 14. Three Reasons ‘Hocus Pocus” Max Dennison Is A Millennial Model For Masculinity

I revisited the ’90s Halloween classic “Hocus Pocus” with my kids this year. We do our share of fast-forwarding through the creepier parts, but one part that’s surprisingly edifying is Max Dennison’s character. Played by Omri Katz, the character manages to transcend a bunch of movie tropes to be an interesting, even honorable representation of masculinity. As long as I’m watching this thing on repeat, we might as well overanalyze our improbable hero together. 1. He’s Kind of a Baller Dennison is the new kid in town in “Hocus Pocus,” just moved to Salem, Massachusetts from Los Angeles in time for Halloween shenanigans. Here we have several choices for Max’s character. He could have been “angry, lonely new kid,” “super-cool California new kid,” or “put-upon, nerdy new kid.” He doesn’t fall easily into any of these categories. His first appearance is as an outspoken skeptic of the locals’ affinity for witchy lore in his high-school classroom. Despite being outnumbered, he voices his op

Wisconsin Senate approves woodchuck season

MADISON — The Wisconsin Senate has declared open season on groundhogs. The chamber approved a bill on a voice vote Tuesday that would remove groundhogs from the state’s protected species list and establish a year-round hunting and trapping season with no bag limits. The Alliance for Animals, the Humane Society of the United States and Midwest Environmental Advocates all have registered in opposition. The Assembly passed the bill on a voice vote in June. The measure now goes to Gov. Scott Walker for his signature. ___ The bill is AB 323.

Violations that most directly contribute to foodborne illness will result in higher deductions. Establishments will be awarded an “A” grade for a score of 80 points or more on a 100 point scale. Scores below 60 points will result in a “C” grade, and may pr
